What is Laparoscopy?

Laparoscopy, also known as minimally invasive surgery or keyhole surgery, is a cutting-edge medical procedure that allows surgeons to examine and operate on the internal organs through small incisions. Unlike traditional open surgery, laparoscopy utilizes a laparoscope—a thin, flexible tube equipped with a high-resolution camera. This advanced technique provides a clearer view of the internal organs and reduces the need for large incisions, resulting in quicker recovery times and less postoperative discomfort.

Procedure of Laparoscopy:

• Preoperative Evaluation: Before the laparoscopic procedure, a thorough preoperative evaluation is conducted. This may include a review of the patient’s medical history, physical examination, and sometimes additional diagnostic tests such as ultrasound or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).
• Anesthesia: The patient is placed under general anesthesia to ensure comfort and a pain-free experience during the procedure.
• Insertion of the Laparoscope: : A laparoscope, a thin and flexible tube with a high-resolution camera attached to its end, is gently inserted through one of the incisions. The camera transmits real-time images to a monitor, providing the surgeon with a clear view of the pelvic organs.
• Operative Interventions: Depending on the findings, the surgeon can perform various operative interventions during the same procedure. These may include cyst removal, excision of endometriosis, tubal ligation, or other necessary gynecological surgeries.
