Test Tube Baby treatment

Test tube baby treatment, also known as in vitro fertilization (IVF), is a widely-used assisted reproductive technology that has helped millions of couples conceive a child. This treatment involves fertilizing a woman’s eggs with sperm in a laboratory dish and transferring the resulting embryo(s) into the uterus. IVF is typically recommended for couples who have difficulty conceiving naturally due to various fertility issues, including blocked fallopian tubes, low sperm count, or endometriosis. The procedure can also be used in cases where a woman’s ovaries are not functioning properly.

At Eva Hospital, Dr. Shivani Bhutani is an experienced fertility specialist who provides personalized IVF treatment plans to help couples achieve their dream of parenthood.

What is IVF?

IVF is a type of assisted reproductive technology (ART) used to help couples conceive a child. IVF involves combining a woman’s eggs and a man’s sperm in a laboratory dish, where fertilization takes place outside the body. The resulting embryos are then transferred into the woman’s uterus with the hope of achieving a successful pregnancy.

IVF can be used to treat a variety of fertility issues, including blocked or damaged fallopian tubes, male factor infertility, ovulation disorders, endometriosis, and unexplained infertility. The process typically involves several stages, including ovarian stimulation to produce multiple eggs, egg retrieval, fertilization, embryo culture, and embryo transfer. IVF has been successfully used for over four decades, and has helped millions of couples worldwide to conceive and have children.

What is a Test Tube Baby?

“Test tube baby” is a term that was used in the past to refer to a child conceived through in vitro fertilization (IVF). This term is no longer commonly used because the procedure does not actually involve a test tube. Instead, the eggs and sperm are combined in a laboratory dish or petri dish for fertilization to occur.

In IVF, a woman’s eggs are harvested from her ovaries and fertilized with sperm in a laboratory. The resulting embryos are monitored for several days to determine their quality, and one or more embryos are then transferred to the woman’s uterus with the hope of achieving a successful pregnancy.

IVF has been used for several decades and has helped many couples conceive children who may not have been able to do so otherwise. Today, the term “test tube baby” is largely seen as outdated and inaccurate, as it does not accurately reflect the scientific process involved in IVF.

Test Tube Baby Process:

The process of conceiving a baby through in vitro fertilization (IVF), also known as a test tube baby, typically involves the following steps:

The woman is given hormone injections to stimulate the ovaries to produce multiple eggs instead of the usual one egg per menstrual cycle.

Once the eggs mature, they are collected through a minor surgical procedure using an ultrasound-guided needle. The procedure is usually performed under sedation or general anesthesia.

The eggs are combined with sperm in a laboratory dish or petri dish for fertilization to occur. This can be done using either conventional IVF or Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI), a process where a single sperm is injected directly into an egg.

The fertilized eggs are then cultured in a laboratory for several days to allow for embryo development.

One or more of the resulting embryos are then transferred into the woman’s uterus through a small catheter. This is typically done three to five days after fertilization, depending on the development of the embryo.

A blood test or urine test is done after two weeks of embryo transfer to determine if the woman is pregnant.
